Nature Navigators Camp

Grades 3-5 Summer Camps

Ages: 8-11 | 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

Discovery Gateway Member Registration: $230 | General Public Registration: $250

These full-day camps are chock full of games, projects, and STEAM-centered activities to keep your kids entertained, engaged, and excited all summer long.

Monday 6/15 - Friday 6/19

 Nature Navigators invites campers to explore ecosystems, animals, and ancient life through inquiry-based activities and hands-on learning. Each day focuses on a different theme: Plants, Oceans, Bugs, Animals, and Ancient Life. Highlights include a presentation by HawkWatch, a guided bug-handling experience, and a Shark Survival Challenge that combines science, strategy, and teamwork. Campers will learn by doing while building observation skills and confidence as young naturalists.

Exciting Collaboration: Children's Museum & The Clark Planetarium

Ages 5-7 | 8:30 am- 12:30 pm

Blast off into a week of discovery! Future Scientists introduces young campers to the amazing world of science through hands-on exploration, playful experiments, and movement-based activities designed just for early learners. From digging into Geology and bubbling through Chemistry, to discovering Biology, blasting into Astronomy, and zooming through Physics, each day is packed with exciting exploration. In partnership with Clark Planetarium, campers will split their day between two exciting learning spaces, spending part of the day at each museum for double the hands-on fun. This camp sparks curiosity and helps young learners see themselves as scientists.

In Scribbles and Smiles, every color tells a story! Campers explore art through hands-on projects, playful activities, and creative discovery designed just for early elementary learners. From bold reds to calming blues and a bright rainbow finale, each day introduces a new color theme that sparks imagination and self-expression. Campers will paint, build, collage, and experiment with a variety of art tools and materials while learning that there’s no single “right way” to make art. A perfect camp for creative kids who love to explore and express themselves.

 Step into the world of nature at Discovery Gateway Children’s MuseumLittle Naturalists is a hands-on camp where curiosity leads the way. Campers will learn about the natural world through movement-based activities, art projects, and short interactive lessons. Special experiences include digging for fossils during mini dinosaur excavations, meeting real arthropods through bug handling, and learning about birds of prey during a presentation from HawkWatch. This camp is perfect for kids who love animals, nature, and getting their hands dirty while they learn.

Calling all wonder-seekers! Mini Mages invites campers to step into enchanted stories and futuristic worlds while learning how science makes the magic happen. Through playful experiments, lessons, crafts, and games, campers will explore potions, fairytales, magical creatures, illusions, and science fiction. Highlights include reimagining classic stories with fractured fairytales, building imaginative spaceships, and discovering how magicians create amazing tricks.

Campers will experiment, investigate, and collaborate as they uncover the science behind magical ideas. Camp highlights include a journey to the planetarium, an exciting treasure hunt, and a visit from a cryptozoologist who explores mythical creatures through a scientific lens. Designed for imaginative campers ready to think critically and explore boldly.

 

Film Crew Camp

Grade 5-6 Summer Camp

Ages: 10-12 | 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

Lights, camera, action! In Film Crew, campers step behind the scenes to learn what it really takes to make a movie. Throughout the week, campers explore the filmmaking process from start to finish—brainstorming ideas, directing scenes, designing sets, filming, and editing their own short films.Each day introduces new skills through active games, mini-lessons, and hands-on projects that build toward the ultimate goal: premiering their work at the first annual DGCM Film Festival at the end of camp. From directors to actors to camera operators, every camper plays an important role on the crew.Perfect for creative storytellers, performers, and future filmmakers ready to bring their ideas to life.

Gabby’s Dollhouse MEOWseum Discovery Days Meet & Greet.

“Hey Gabby, take us to the museum!”

Get ready for a paws-itively magical experience! Discovery Gateway Children's Museum is partnering with DreamWorks Animation and the Association of Children’s Museums to present Gabby’s Dollhouse MEOWseum Discovery Days!

This special event brings the magic of Gabby’s Dollhouse to Salt Lake City for a weekend filled with imagination, creativity and hands-on fun!

    • Cat-tastic crafts: Make your own kitty ears, hamster kitties, printable memory game and more
    • Gabby-themed activities throughout the museum including Gabby story time, DJ Catnip dance party and a character scavenger hunt
    • Meet & greet photo opportunity with a Gabby costumed character (Reservations required – Limited walk-ups available)

Museum admission or membership is required to attend Gabby’s Dollhouse MEOWseum Discovery Days. Gabby crafts and activities are included with museum admission.

The MEOWseum Discovery Days Meet & Greet has limited capacity. Advanced registration is highly advised. While standby options may be available on the day of the Meet & Greet, it is not guaranteed that guests without a reservation will be able to meet Gabby. To buy admission through our Museums for All Program, visit our front desk.

When is Gabby coming to Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum?
  • Gabby will be here for a meet & greet on Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12
Do I need a reservation to meet Gabby?
  • Yes! An advance reservation is required to meet Gabby. Due to limited time and high interest, guests without a reservation may not be able to meet Gabby. 
Will I meet the actor that plays Gabby on the show?
  • Visitors with a meet & greet reservation will have the opportunity to meet the Gabby costumed character. Laila Lockhart Kraner, the actress who plays Gabby on the show, will not be at the museum.
Do I need an admission ticket to the museum?
  • Yes! A meet & greet reservation is ONLY to meet Gabby and take a photo. All visitors are required to have a general admission ticket or a valid membership to enter the museum. General admission tickets can be purchased either online or at the museum front desk. 
Can I use the Museums for All access program to attend this event?
  • Yes! Guests utilizing the Museums for All program may present their SNAP, EBT, or WIC benefits card at our admission desk to register for this event at a discounted rate. 

Is the rest of the museum open?

  • Yes! The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 24-26th. 
I couldn’t get a meet & greet reservation. Can I still meet Gabby?
  • Due to limited time and high interest, an advance reservation is required to meet Gabby. A limited number of walk-up spots may be available on both days, but only if space allows. Guests without a reservation may not be able to meet Gabby.
I can’t make it that weekend. Can I still participate?
  • Yes! Join us for fun Gabby crafts and activities in in the weeks leading up to the MEOWseum Discovery Days event weekend.
